Goodwood® Products are being developed to help stabilize our relationship with our forests. We divert excess woody biomass from landfills, turn it into an easier, cleaner-burning solid fuel, and use proceeds to aid global reforestation efforts.
Reducing Waste
Wood waste represents up to 28 percent of the solid waste stream in landfills. We believe good wood should never go to waste. Every speck of sawdust, every pile of woodchips, every truckload of tree trimmings has the potential to be part of our sustainable, renewable energy future. All-Wood Firelogs are made from clean wood shavings and sawdust captured at the lumber mill, diverting thousands of tons of this by-product from the waste-stream.
Improving Forest Health
Forests are critical to reducing carbon loads in our atmosphere as trees absorb CO2, storing more as they grow. But around the globe, forest health and carbon sequestration have been jeopardized by deforestation. In addition, millions of acres of our own American forests are choked with unnaturally dense vegetation, leaving them susceptible to disease and catastrophic wildfires. In our vision of a renewable energy future, surplus woody biomass from healthy forest management and woodland clean-up operations is used to produce high value, cleaner-burning, carbon-neutral solid fuels and energy.
Helping to Clear the Air
Particulate matter from both fossil fuel and renewable resource combustion are the major cause of air pollution, leading to environmental and health issues. As we commit to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, we turn to renewable, sustainable products. Using densified bio-fuels such as All-Wood Firelogs instead of regular firewood makes a difference by reducing particulate emissions by 50% due to their higher density and lower moisture content. In addition, bio-fuels are considered carbon-neutral, unlike fossil-fuel-based products that contribute to global warming when burned.
Giving Back for a Better Future
We need healthy forests, and we also simply need more trees. Goodwood is a partner with One Tree Planted, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to global reforestation, restoring habitats and biodiversity. We donate 5% of all online proceeds to OTP – at one dollar per tree, our customers have helped us plant THOUSANDS of trees since we began last October!
